THE NURSING COUNCIL

The Nursing Council of Jamaica was established in

1952 and operates under the Nurses and Midwives

Act of 1964.

The Council is the Regulatory body which con-

trolls the training and practice of nurses, midwives

and assistant nurses. It also registers or enrolls

these persons when they have successfully com-

pleted the Council's qualifying examinations.

General nurses, midwives or assistant nurses

trained abroad, seeking employment in Jamaica

also have to meet requirements set by the Council

before registration.

With registration of the general trained nurse and

Midwife and enrollment of the assistant nurse,

Their titles are as follows:

Registered General Nurse (RGN)

Registered Midwife (RM)

Enrolled Assistant Nurse (EAN)
